Curaçao-born pianist, composer and arranger Randal Corsen (1972) blends jazz with traditional Antillean and Latin-American music in a highly original manner. Randal’s compositions and arrangements contain modern and progressive harmonies, while his solo’s are characterized by great virtuosity, rhythmic perfection and much diversity. He is regarded as one of the most important ambassadors of Antillean music. Randal, now residing in the Netherlands, leads his own quartet, quintet and the Antillean Big Band Tumbábo. Since graduating cum laude from the Brabants Conservatorium in 1998, Randal has performed with numerous jazz and world music artists such as Izaline Calister, Ronald Snijders, Gerardo Rosales, Roy Hargrove, David Sánchez and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. For his album Evolushón he received the Edison Jazz Award (the Dutch equivalent to the Grammy’s). Randal's latest album Armonia was recorded last year at Systems Two Recording Studios in Brooklyn, NY, featuring an all-star line-up and mostly new, original repertoire. It is Randal’s first jazz release after his award winning CD Evolushon in 2003.
