After four years of classical piano playing, Floris (1981) started playing the saxophone when he was eleven. Eight years later he enrolled the Amsterdam Conservatory, and studied there with Ferdinand Povel, and Jasper Blom. Besides that he had lessons, workshops and clinics by Dick Oatts, Jesse van Ruller, Lee Konitz, Johan Plomp, David Binney, John Clayton, Kenny Werner, John Ruocco, Robin Eubanks and many others. In 2007 Floris graduated cum laude and became master of music. In 2006 Floris became 2nd with his quintet QUINCEY on the prestigious Dutch Jazz Competition. In the same year he won the prize for best soloist on the Dutch Big Band Festival. Floris can be heard frequently on different venues and festivals. Some examples: Bimhuis, Paradiso, North Sea Jazz, The Hague Jazz, Melkweg, Tivoli, Jazz in Duketown, Nieuwe de la Mar Theater, Alto, Meer Jazz Festival.
