Olaf started playing bass guitar when he was 15 years old. Soon he was playing in his first pop band and after a year he started playing jazz in a big band. Eager to learn more about music, he took part in several workshops in jazz and Latin-music and had his own Frank Zappa inspired band.
Because of his growing love for jazz, he decided to learn to play the double bass, which soon became his main instrument. He studied jazz at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Hein van de Geyn, Frans van der Hoeven and Roelof Meijer and participated in master classes from Avishai Cohen, David Liebman Joe LaBarbera and many other great musicians.
After graduating, Olaf played in several ensembles varying from jazz and pop music to Brazilian music and Tango. Besides that he’s been also working as a bass teacher and workshop leader.
