Walter Wolff (1981 Helsinki, Finland) moved to the Netherlands in 2003 for studies at the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague, where he studied jazz piano with Rob van Kreeveld and Juraj Stanik and classical piano with Albert Brussee. He also studied privately with Brad Mehldau in New York.In 2008 Walter had a monthly engagement at Grand Café Soho in the Hague, where his trio accompanied musicians such as saxophonists Simon Rigter, Mischa van der Wekken and Chris Johansen and trumpeters Philip Harper, Eef van Breen and Rodolfo Neves.In May the same year, Walter made a one week long tour in south Italy with the SFEW Holland Quartet (with Simon Rigter – tenor sax, Francesco Angiuli – bass and Enzo Lanzo - drums)Walter has been internationally active, performing on stages in Italy, France, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia and Luxemburg.In November 2008 the Walter Wolff Trio accompanied legendary American vibraphone player Teddy Charles on a one week long tour in the Netherlands. They performed in a.o. Theater Pepijn (The Hague), De Burcht (Leiden) and Bimhuis (Amsterdam). The concert at Bimhuis was recorded LIVE for O.A.P. Records.The Walter Wolff Trio was also selected to perform at the 2008 Dutch Jazz Meeting.In January 2007 Walter won third price at the YPF jazz piano competition. In the gala performance afterwards Walter performed with one of the jury members, Bobo Stenson.In January 2009 Walter won the Leidse Jazz Award 2009.
