Born in Israel in 1977, Yaniv Nachum studied at the Israeli Jazz Academy, Rimon, before joining the Israeli military orchestra. During his three years of military service, Yaniv played lead tenor saxophone with the Tel Aviv Jazz Big Band, and had the honor to work with the great trombonist and arranger Slide Hampton and guitarist Mike Stern. In 1999, Yaniv moved to the Netherlands in order to study at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. There he developed his professional improvisational techniques under the tuition of Ferdinand Povel, Rob Madna and Jasper Blom. While in Amsterdam, Yaniv also had the opportunity to study and work with such great musicians as Chris Potter, Mike Mainieri, David Berkman, Willie Jones III,and Dave Holland During his studies in the Netherlands, Yaniv worked and toured with numerous ensembles, winning competitions throughout Europe. For the past few years Yaniv played with some of the best orchestras in the Netherlands such as the "Metropole Orchestra" and the "Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw" Since 2002 Yaniv is working with his award-wining quartet playing original compositions, recording and touring all over Europe, In 2001 and 2002, he played in the house band of the Dutch television show, “Flogiston”, and was bandleader on the popular Dutch show, “De National Wetenschapquiz”, for the VPRO television network. In 2002, Yaniv moved to New York where he completed a Masters Degree at The Manhattan School of Music. There his teachers included Dave Liebman, Dick Oatts, Gary Dial and Steve Slagl. Since 2003, Yaniv has been teaching Jazz Improvisation at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He also teaches at the Summer Jazz Workshop, a joint project conducted by The Manhattan School of Music and CvA. In 2004, awarded Yaniv “Best Modern Jazz Album of the Year” for his online collection from his new CD, Fragments of Before. Since 2005 Yaniv is conducting and arranging for the “Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra” initiating projects with well-known musicians as Jasper Blom, Martijn Vink, Ruud Bruels, Ilja Reijngoud, Maarten van de Grinten, Eric Vloeimans, Jesse van Ruller and many more… Yaniv is currently teaching jazz improvisation at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, touring and working with various ensembles
