Born in Amsterdam, Holland, Gerrie van der Klei started her musical career at age 7, studying classical guitar until her 17th. At the same time she took ballet-lessons and later tap- and jazz-dance. In her early 20’s she enjoyed private singing lessons with a renowned vocal coach and started her theatrical career singing jazz, musical, comedy and cabaret.

Her talent was instantly recognised and she toured Europe and the U.S. making several albums and singing with the greatest of international jazz-musicians like part of the Duke Ellington Orchestra. She sang at celebration concerts in Carnegie Hall and St. Peters Church, New York and among other things, toured with the Clark Terry Band. She appeared at several jazz-festivals, of which the North Sea Jazz-Festival in The Hague is the most internationally renowned, where she performed four times with different formations.

She is also internationally well known as The Sissies and with The Nelson Revue. In the 70’s she made her musical-comedy debut in the original Dutch musical Foxtrot, which became an instant hit. Consequently she appeared in many more musicals, plays, comedies, Noel Coward being one of her favourites, and cabaret, singing jazz in between, and doing numerous radio and television shows and films, to this day.

In recent years Gerrie played in different musicals like 42nd Street (2000-2001 ), for which she got a nomination for the John Kraaykamp Musical Award for Best Supporting Actress, Conny Stuart in Sonneveld, Mother Superior in Nunsense, a leading part in Musical de Cursus, a guest appearance in the theatre play De Po of Feydeau and Mrs Higgings in MyFair Lady.

In 2008-2009 she became part of the theatrical group Purper in Purper sinds 1980. In 2010-2011 she played the role of Jacqueline in “La Cage aux Folies.”

In March 2012 her new, autobiographical, cd “Lovers & Friends” is expected to be presented. Having taught musical-theatre at the Rotterdam Conservatorium she is still frequently invited to give workshops and master-classes.
