Caspar van Wijk (1988) studied from 2006-2009 with saxophonist Simon Rigter, at the Rotterdam Conservatory. Caspar continued his studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, with Ferdinand Povel and Jasper Blom. During this time he also studied abroad, where he studied with Dick Oatts and John Swana, among others.
In 2011 he graduated, summa cum laude, from the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
In 2008 Caspar won first prize at the Princess Christina Jazz Competition, together with drummer Mark Schilders.
In 2011 his composition "What Was Told, That" won the award for Best Composition during the European Keep An Eye Jazz Competition.
Caspar lives in The Hague, where he leads his own group, the Van Wijk/Derudder Quartet, together with pianist Alex Koo Derudder. He is also a popular sideman and performs regularly with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw.
