Hans Mantel (1958) has been a professional bassist since the early eighties and became a much sought after sideman, playing with artists like, John Scofield, George Duke, Wynton Marsalis, George Benson, Clark Terry, Joe Lovano and countless other jazz greats. He is a graduate from The Royal Conservatory of The Hague, took lessons with bass legend Ray Brown and holds a masters degree in theoretical musicology from Utrecht University. For many years he was the principal voice and face of jazz on Dutch public radio and television. As a teacher he is on staff as professor of jazz history at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. He maintains a busy schedule playing, traveling, teaching and writing about music.“Hans Mantel possesses a big sound and a big desire to make the music feel good.
