Michal Vanoucek – born in Slovakia, he studied piano and cello as a child, and in 1992 he started studying orchestral conducting at the Conservatory of Zilina and later Bratislava, graduating in 1998, to go on and major in jazz piano at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Michal has worked on various musical productions both as a pianist and a conductor including the German productions of 'Orpheus in the underworld', 'The King and I', 'Mahalia' and 'Kiss me Kate', and the Dutch productions of 'Aida', 'Lion King', 'Tarzan', 'Ciske de rat' and recently ‘Les Miserables’. As well as this, he has taken part in numerous projects with his own band ‘As Guest’, and other musicians from all over the world. He recently won the prestigious Deloitte Jazz Award (2008) for the best musician.
